Sherlock Holmes Museum
At ThinkHotels we have a whole host of brilliant budget hotels in London – what’s more, we have a whole lot of insider knowledge on what to do during your budget London hotel stay, while you’re there. One of our recent London favourites is the less-than-well-known Sherlock Holmes Museum – a fantastic find on Baker Street (of course!) and perfect for any would-be sleuth or fiction fan visiting the city.
Hosted at 221b Baker Street – the address that is, according to the legend penned by Sir Arthur Conen Doyle, where the famed detective lived. The house is under protection by the government due to its “special architectural and historical interest”.
A privately run museum, this stunning homage opened in 1990. It is a Georgian townhouse and covers the period in Conan Doyle’s fiction running from 1881 to 1904 – when the detective and his assistant Doctor Watson reputedly resided there.
In this Grade 2 listed building you can view the Holmes apartment, an exhibition about the books (including life size waxworks of Sherlock Holmes and various other characters) and even pick up a souvenir antique or two from the gift shop.
At ThinkHotels we have a number of fantastic finds and stunning budget hotels in London – all within very close vicinity to this must-see. Why not sample a little appropriately antiquated charm at the comfortable and classical Avon Hotel? If you wish to add a little shopping into your budget London hotel stay, the Hadleigh Hotel is another fantastic nearby find. Or for a budget London hotel with a definite emphasis on all things contemporary, the gorgeous Lords Hotel might just be the one for you…
