New Orleans, Best Place to Celebrate the New Year

New year in New OrleansNew Orleans is a beautiful and unique American city that celebrates New Year’s Eve with exciting events throughout the night in a truly grand style.

Located in south-eastern Louisiana the birthplace of jazz doesn’t just enjoy the moment the clock strikes twelve but savours the entire evening with an extensive list of fun and often free activities to fill any traveller with some heartfelt New Year spirit.

Head to Jackson Square where you can immerse yourself in all the action with live music performances as revellers eagerly await the stroke of midnight to be wowed by the magnificent fireworks show over the glittering Mississippi River.

If you’re looking for a booming nightclub venture to one of the ones in the character-filled French Quarter where you can wander down Bourbon Street and choose from a number of great places to mingle and dance. Many bars and clubs have open-air courtyards and balconies, which are the best places to be for a perfect view of the fireworks. Alternatively why not take them in on a riverboat that offers a fabulous cruise on the Mississippi River before, during or after the celebrations. Choose between the Natchez and the Creole Queen where you can be treated to a late night buffet, open bar, champagne toast and live music from a DJ.

A perfect place to see in the New Year is in one of the city’s famous music venues where you can experience authentic jazz and blues. Visit Frenchmen Street where you’ll find some vibrant jazz clubs and concert halls such as Snug Harbor, Jazz Bistro, Maison and The Spotted Cat Music Club.

To add to the unique sense of the city there are a few celebrations available for families. One is at the Louisiana Children’s Museum at their annual Countdown to Noon event, which is a celebration featuring games, entertainment and a New Year’s countdown to 12 noon with balloon and confetti drops and a soda-pop toast.

Known as The Big Easy the city, just like New York, has a delicious buzz about it at this time of year that is absolutely infectious as people prepare for the countdown to welcome in January.
