BRIT Awards to be held at O2 Arena in 2014
The 34th annual BRIT Awards will be held at London’s O2 Arena on Wednesday February 19th 2014 – the fourth year running that the venue has held the awards ceremony. ITV has recently extended its partnership with the arena, meaning that the awards will be held at the venue until 2016 at least. Stage and screen star James Corden will once again be hosting the event.
This will be Corden’s fifth and final time presenting the awards. Chief executive officer and president of AEG Europe Tom Miserendino said: “The BRITs continues to reach new heights even after more than 30 years. I am delighted that the BRIT Awards are coming back to the O2 for a fourth year. It is a key night in the music calendar and hosting it here at the world’s most popular music venue fits so well.
The statue that winners receive has this year been designed by royal hat designer and fashion icon Philip Treacy. It has been created with the punk music genre in mind.Four-time BRIT Award winners Arctic Monkeys will play on the night, while Katy Perry, who won 2009′s international solo female award, will perform at the BRITs for the first time in 2014.
The winner of the Critic’s Choice award for 2014 has already been announced too. Sam Smith has won the accolade following a successful 2013 in which he released his debut album Nirvana, worked with Naughty Boy on the worldwide number one single La La La and provided vocals for Latch, Disclosure’s breakout single. Smith said: “It means the world to me, it’s the only award I really care about.”Previous winners of the award include Adele, Tom Odell, Emeli Sande and Florence and the Machine, who have all gone on to enjoy extremely successful careers.The O2 Arena is situated in the heart of the capital city and can be reached by Tube from all London hotels.
