A Festive Guide to Amsterdam
Amsterdam doesn’t perhaps spring to mind as the destination of choice for your festive jaunt; but rest assured The Netherlands’ charismatic capital is positively replete with the whimsical charm required for your wintry break.
Featuring a delightful array of chic and sophisticated boutiques, luxurious stays and cute and comfortable budget finds – hotels in Amsterdam offer a fantastic variety for your Christmas holiday. So once you’ve booked your flights and accommodation – we’ve put together a few of our favourite festive finds to help make your break perfect…!
Amsterdam is home to some of the continent’s most amazing Christmas Markets. With Markets dotted all over the city, from off the main tourist strip to a few in-the-know little tucked away nooks and crannies, visiting Amsterdam’s veritable wealth of cute and kitsch markets is an absolute must. For a classic Christmas market experience, try the Winter Market, off Beursplein; where you might find all manner of delicious foods and handcrafted gifts. For a nocturnal find, try the Midnight Market off Toren.
Don your skates and steady your balance for this wintry Amsterdam activity. During the festive season a whole host of pop up skating rinks manifest throughout the city. There’s nothing that quite screams Christmas like an outdoor spot of skating, so get in the spirit, and try not to fall over.
Amsterdam Light Festival
Running from between the 6th December through to the 19th January, the light festival sees the city centre and surrounding stunning canals lit up beautifully in lights! Take a canal cruise or a guided walking tour to find some of the most spectacular light installations that transform Amsterdam into a regular winter wonderland!
